Context & Starting Point

How it started

The IBM Public Cloud Solution Tool is an internal tool used by solution architects and sales teams to build cloud solution proposals for enterprise clients. It supports VMware, Power Virtual Server, VPC, SAP RISE, IBM Cloud Satellite, ROKS, and Common Services.

In October 2025, SAP RISE — SAP's cloud transformation offering moving ERP workloads onto cloud infrastructure — needed to be fully enabled as a project type. The tool had no native SAP RISE flow, no BOM upload capability, and no mechanism to surface new features to returning users. Kiran B and I delivered Version 6 over 6 weeks, working with Ed Saipetch, Pradeep Balachandran, and Washim Raza.

What was designed

Feature 1
Landing page — What's New onboarding
Removed the redundant "All Projects" thumbnail (already in Recent Projects) and introduced a "What's New?" thumbnail. Clicking "View details" surfaces new features to returning users — a reusable pattern for all future releases.
Feature 2
Create Project — SAP RISE offering
Added SAP (including SAP RISE) as a new offering in the Create Project modal alongside existing offerings. Users can now initiate a SAP RISE project without manual configuration.
Feature 3
SAP RISE IT Requirements page
Designed the SAP RISE detail page with two instance types — SAP on VPC and SAP on PowerVS — each with Add Instance, Workload/Business Application selector, PCE, Primary region, and SAP BOM Excel upload.
Feature 4
SAP BOM upload — file chooser + error handling
File chooser browser, choose-a-file state, and error state for incorrect file formats — giving architects uploading SAP Bill of Materials Excel files clear feedback at every step.
Feature 5
Cloud Products — phase-based table
Post-upload phase-based Cloud Products table (Phases 1–5) with Product ID, Description, Start Date, End Date, Units Qty, Sales Unit. Edit Instance enables inline editing per phase.
