A question that became a product.

Vaayurath began with a fundamental observation: every vehicle in motion displaces enormous volumes of air that immediately dissipate as wasted energy. The question was whether that kinetic energy — completely untapped in current vehicle design — could be converted into something useful.

This wasn't a brief from a client. It was a product innovation built from first principles, requiring design thinking to span physical product, technology architecture, user experience, and business strategy simultaneously.

Converting kinetic energy into clean power.

Vaayurath is a system that captures vehicle-induced airflow — the turbulence generated by vehicles in motion — and converts it into electrical energy through a proprietary mechanism. The innovation addresses a gap in existing renewable energy systems: most clean-energy solutions require dedicated infrastructure.

Vaayurath generates energy from infrastructure that already exists: roads, vehicles, and movement.

From concept to intellectual property.

My role in Vaayurath was unlike any project I had worked on before. It required design thinking to operate simultaneously across physical product design, digital experience design, and innovation strategy.

Design thinking without boundaries.

Vaayurath demonstrates something important about design leadership: the problem-solving skills that make a great enterprise product designer — systems thinking, user-centred research, reducing complexity, building for trust — apply equally to physical products, deep technology, and sustainable innovation.

The same approach I use to simplify a network operations dashboard, I used to design a clean-energy ecosystem. The domain changes. The discipline doesn't.

What this project taught me.

Working on Vaayurath reminded me that the most interesting design problems are the ones where the "user" isn't immediately obvious. In this case, it ranged from the road authority installing the system to the policy maker evaluating its grid impact.

Contributing to two patent filings changed how I think about intellectual property. A well-designed system — physical or digital — can create protectable value that outlasts the original project.

If I could extend Vaayurath further, I would invest significantly in the digital monitoring ecosystem — designing the data experience for city infrastructure operators is a genuinely fascinating design problem.
